The
Song of Bernadette
Franz
Werfel This is the classic work with foreword by George
Weigel, that tells the true story surrounding the miraculous visions of St.
Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes, France in 1858. Werfel, a highly respected
anti-Nazi writer from Vienna, became a Jewish refugee who barely escaped death
in 1940, and wrote this moving story to fulfill a promise he made to
God.
The
Life of St. Philip Neri Antonio
Gallonio
St. Philip Neri is one of the
best-loved saints of all time. Known as the ‘Apostle of Rome’, he set in motion
a great renewal of Christianity at the heart of the Church’s capital city during
the 1500’s. St. Philip’s foundation of the Oratory began by stimulating young
laymen to conversion, prayer, and apostolic works, and through them gradually
brought about a reform of the entire Church, at all levels of society. St.
Philip inspired many through his words, his miracles and his spiritual gifts,
which show many similarities with other great saints such as Padre Pio and St.
John Vianney.
Saint Francis of
Assisi
A Biography Ivan
Gobry He has inspired countless films, paintings, poems and
novels. But who was Francesco Bernadone, now known as Saint Francis of Assisi?
Despite the wealth of writing on the life of this great saint, many still don’t
know the man. They know the legend: a Francis made palatable to modern
sensibilities — the happy friar who carols to the birds and writes poems to the
sun and moon. This is the image of the saint that is usually presented, even
though it fails to encompass the true personality of Francis.
Martin
of Tours Regine
Pernoud Regine Pernoud, the highly
acclaimed French medieval historian, and author of best-selling titles on Joan
of Arc and Hildegard of Bingen, as well as the book Those Terrible Middle
Ages, presents an enlightening biography of one of France's most revered
saints, and a man whose impact on France, and Europe, continues to this
day.
St. Anthony
The first major feature length
drama on the life of St. Anthony of Padua, one of the most popular saints in
Christian history. Made in Italy with top-notch acting talent, and superb
cinematography, this is an outstanding film on the inspiring life of St.
Anthony. Also available on
VHS.
Therese This film, directed by Leonardo
Defilippis, tells the story of St. Therese of Lisieux, a young girl who fell in
love with Jesus Christ and demonstrated a path of spirituality, known as the
"Little Way", through the actions of unconditional love, human compassion, and
selfless devotion to duty. Starring Lindsay Younce, this moving true story is
told in an inspiring way that invites the audience to contemplate and apply such
spirituality in their own lives.
Bernadette
From Jean Delannoy, one of France’s
foremost filmmakers, comes this top quality feature film production of the story
of St. Bernadette and the apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes. Actress Sydney
Penny gives a beautiful performance as Bernadette, and the rest of the cast is
equally superb. Also stars Roland Lesaffre and Michele Simonnet. It is highly
recommended by the Vatican as a “sensitive portrayal of a very moving story that
deserves a wide audience.”
