The Fall book season is upon us here at Ignatius, with several new
titles right from the press. Take 15% off on these newest releases,
including books by popular authors such as G.K. Chesterton, Mother
Mary Francis, and Fiona French. Or, if work has you bogged down,
we also have some new films, both based on incredible true stories
of faith and courage. Take a look! |
Canticle of the Sun
Fiona French
Inspired by Byzantine art, acclaimed artist
Fiona
French presents twelve mosaic tableaux that light up a sparkling
translation of the canticle. The hymn is a beautiful poem, and a
profound prayer, touching on the incredible beauty of God’s creation,
but also the profound meaning and importance of how we give praise
to God when we forgive.

But I Have Called You Friends
Mother Mary Francis, PCC
In these gentle,
simple, yet profound conferences, Mother Mary Francis, P.C.C.,
explores both the necessity and the difficulty of Christian friendship.
Friendship is the basis of all fruitful love, she wrote. Whether
we are single or married, priest or religious, the Lord himself
called us his friends and commanded us to be the friends of one
another.

Saint Francis of Assisi
Ivan Gorby
He has inspired countless films,
paintings, poems and novels.
But who was Francesco Bernadone, now known as Saint Francis of
Assisi? Despite the wealth of writing on the life of this great
saint, many still don’t know the man. They know the legend: a
Francis made palatable to modern sensibilities -— the happy friar
who carols to the birds and writes poems to the sun and moon.
This is the image of the saint that is usually presented, even
though it fails to encompass the true personality of Francis.

The Staircase

The Staircase, based on the real legend of the "miraculous
stairway" at the Sisters of Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico is an inspirational,
life-affirming drama of hope and faith. Mother Madalyn's (Barbara Hershey) last
wish is that her beloved chapel be completed. However when local carpenters
built the chapel, they neglected to erect stairs up to the choir loft, and
due to the chapel's construction, adding a staircase is now impossible. The
arrival of Joad (William Petersen), may be the answer to Mother Madalyn's prayers.
Sophie Scholl
In 1943, a group of college students mount an underground resistance movement
in Munich dedicated to the downfall of the monolithic Third Reich war machine.
One of its few female members, Sophie Scholl is captured during a dangerous
mission. Her cross-examination by the Gestapo quickly escalates into a searing
test of wills as Scholl delivers a passionate call to freedom and personal
responsibility that is both haunting and timeless. Academy Award nominee for
Best Foreign Film.
Hidden Places

Widowed with two
children and beginning to lose her faith, Eliza Watt
(Emmy-nominated Sydney Penny) must bring in the harvest before
the bank forecloses on her family’s home. Just when things can’t
get any worse, fate brings along hope in the form of Gabe Harper
(Jason Gedrick of Windfall), a handsome, down-on-his-luck veteran.
Together Eliza and Gabe overcome the odds to save Wyatt Orchard with
the help of stubborn but lovable Aunt Batty (Academy Award winner
Shirley Jones). |
