Mother
Benedict
Foundress of the Abbey of Regina
Laudis
Antoinette Bosco
The
heart of this book is the amazing story of Mother Benedict Duss, who was
born in America but went to France and became a medical doctor in Paris,
but left that profession to become a Benedictine contemplative. Through
the liberating efforts from Hitler’s Nazi regime by Patton’s army in
France, she felt an overwhelming interior call to return to America to
found the first community of contemplative Benedictine nuns. At the young
age of 35, with incredible faith, courage and the help of Popes,
politicians, famous writers, and many others, she persevered in her
call.
Citadel of God
A Novel of Saint
Benedict
Louis de Wohl
Another of the popular
historical novels by de Wohl, telling the dramatic story of St. Benedict,
the father of Western monasticism, who played such a major role in the
Christianization and civilization of post-Roman Europe in the sixth
century. De Wohl weaves a tapestry of love, violence and piety to recount
with historical accuracy the story of St. Benedict and the tempestuous era
in which he lived.
St.
Benedict: Hero of the Hills
Mary Fabyan
Windeatt
Having lived in
an era of great immorality and vice, Benedict founded an order for monks
whose strong life of prayer and work helped convert the godless society
around them. It tells how his Benedictine order of monks spread throughout
Europe and the New World. The heroic life of his sister St. Scholastica,
his saving a boy from drowning, raising one from the dead, and the story
of poisoned wine are all told in this exciting, dramatic tale of a great
saint.
