The Feast of Joan of Arc
15% off titles listed below!

At a time when France was at war with England, a young French woman answered God's call and led her country to victory. She followed her conscience in the face of death and years later was made a saint.

Celebrating the Feast of Joan of Arc, Ignatius Press is offering a selection of Joan of Arc titles at 15% off including our newest title, The Retrial of Joan of Arc. Be inspired by her amazing story of courage, faith and devotion in any of our books or films listed below.

The Retrial of Joan of Arc
The Evidence for Her Vindication
Regine Pernoud
This book is the first English language book about the retrial of Joan of Arc: and clearly the best, based firmly on the testimonies given at the retrial. Written by the renowned French historian, Regine Pernoud, it uses extensive excerpts from the people who actually knew Joan, bringing to life this great woman and her powerful story.

Joan of Arc
Mark Twain
Because of Mark Twain's antipathy to institutional religion, one might expect an anti-Catholic bias toward Joan or at least toward the bishops and theologians who condemned her. Instead one finds a remarkably accurate biography of the life and mission of Joan of Arc told by one of this country's greatest storytellers. The very fact that Mark Twain wrote this book and wrote it the way he did is a powerful testimony to the attractive power of the Catholic Church's saints. This is a book that really will inform and inspire.

St. Joan: The Girl Soldier
Louis de Wohl
This volume in the Vision Books series of saints for youth combines a world famous Catholic novelist, Louis de Wohl, with one of the most thrilling and dramatic saint's lives in history, St. Joan of Arc. De Wohl uses his famed narrative skill to tell young people about the brave teenage French girl who had visions and led armies in battle, but also about how her entire life testifies to the amazing power of God's grace.

Captive Flames
On Selected Saints and Christian Heroes
Ronald Knox

FILMS

Joan of Arc
A newly restored DVD version of the lavish 1948 film, with original full-length version footage never before seen in the United States. Academy Award-winner Ingrid Bergman (Casablanca) is spellbinding as the 15th century French peasant girl who rouses a nation and inspires the world with her faith and bravery. This powerful, visually stunning epic of one of history's most fascinating heroines features spectacular action and unforgettable drama!

The Passion of Joan of Arc
A lost masterpiece recently found and digitally restored to pristine condition, this 1928 film by acclaimed Carl Dreyer is considered by critics as one of the greatest films ever made. French actress Reneé Falconetti's performance as Joan is praised as "the greatest performance on film". It focuses on the saint's trial and martyrdom. Silent film with English subtitles, includes Einhorn's brilliant orchestral music Voices of Light.

Joan of Arc: Child of War, Soldier of God
This excellent docu-drama originally aired on the Hallmark Channel in March, 2005. Viewers will see Joan’s life unfold through her own eyes and in her own words, and experience the powerful grip of faith that inspired her to lead. Alfred Molina narrates and Anna Paquin is the voice of Joan.

MUSIC
Voices of Light
Inspired by the film, The Passion of Joan of Arc, and featuring the acclaimed singing group Anonymous 4, this stirring music was composed by the renown Richard Einhorn. It is on opera/oratorio for voices and amplified instrumental ensemble in celebration of Joan. The libretto is a deeply moving patchwork of visions, fantasies and reflections assembled from the writings of Scripture, saints and mystics, and represent the faith, suffering and inspiration of the life of Joan of Arc.
