"Praying With Mary" by Janice T. Connell
Introduction:
In Catholicism, the next most popular person after Christ and the
one most loved by people of all walks of life is the Blessed Virgin
Mary. So many prayers and writings have been produced that speak
of the high esteem many Catholics have for the Mother of God. This book
was authored and edited by Janice T. Connell and she said in
her "Author's Note" that the original idea for writing it came
from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. According to her story, in
one of the gatherings were Mother Teresa was asked to be present,
the kind, saintly nun approached her and said that "The Blessed
Mother wants me to write a prayer for your next book, Praying
With Mary". So in the book she makes this note including
the prayer that Mother Teresa wants to be published in the book.
A collection of prayers for all occasions
The book is a concise treasury of all the popular and not so known
prayers written in behalf of the Mother of God. There are also
some notes written by the author that give some information related
to the prayer. The prayers in this collection are helpful especially
when we need:
- strength in times of desperation
- peace in times of strife
- healing in times of suffering
- compassion in times of sorrow, and
- love in times of isolation
The book is special because it received the Nihil Obstat
from Robert Faricy, S.J., S.T.D., and the Imprimatur from
Roman Danylak, D.D., Titular Bishop of Nyssa and Apostolic
Administrator of the Eparchy of Toronto, Canada. This declaration
was made in Rome, March 25, 1997, the Feast of the Incarnation.
The Miracle Prayer
Author Janice Connell features one of the prayers to Mary, that
since the thrid century, people have recited in times of dire
emergency. She shares that this prayer is extraordinarily
effective. The prayer is attributed to St. Bernard of Clairvaux
and is entitled, "Memorare of the Blessed Virgin Mary".
Remember O most loving Mary that it is unheard of that anyone
who has ever had recourse to your protection, implored your
help, or sought your intercession, was left forsaken. Inspired
therefore by this confidence in your goodness, I fly unto you
my Mother, O Virgin of virgins. To you do I come, before you
I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my poor words,
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, but graciously hear and
grant my prayer. Amen.

To have an idea of how the prayers are organized in the book,
given below is the table of contents that categorizes the
