Book Review

A book review on Crossing the Threshold of Hope, a compiled text of the interview made with John Paul II by Vittorio Messori.

This book is a very good book for both Catholics and non-Catholics. It gives clarification on certain truths of the Catholic faith. The responses of John Paul II to the interview by Vittorio Messori are classic and well expressed.

Crossing the Threshold of Hope

Crossing the Threshold of Hope, by John Paul II If one embarks on reading this book, a better grasp and a clearer understanding will be given on knowing the Catholic faith. There are many issues that are brought to attention in the book, especially issues that are relevant to our times and needs to be addressed to by the competent authority of the pope. This book may be well placed among the modern classics as it describes how the Catholic truths are really based on the Scriptures and the Tradition inherited from the apostles.

A John Paul II legacy

We must give much credit for John Paul II for this production, through the skill of Vittorio Messori as interviewer. If not for the leadership of the late John Paul II, the Church would have been led to a direction in which she should not have gone. John Paul II kept very much to the conservative tradition of the Church's teaching, and at the same time extending the boundaries of the Catholic faith with a missionary spirituality that globally unites many faiths - working with an ecumenical spirit.

The contents of the book

The contents of the book does not only bring light to the many gray areas in which the Catholic faith needs to make clear, but it is also an interesting piece of literature to take up for casual and easy reading. It is also a good resource book for those who are undertaking the RCIA program. Much of the concerns and moral issues that are plaguing the Church at present, and making it difficult for those who are committed to bring many members to its fold are the scandals - which are discussed in this book and made more plain to understand by the late Holy Father. The responses and answers

The responses and the answers of John Paul II to the many questions given to him by Vittorio are answered well. Some may require a bit of basic theological background in order to understand them in their totality, but as long as one has a dictionary for Catholic terms, or a specialized theological dictionary, you can easily understand what the Pope wants to convey and express.

The book basically was written and phrased in a manner that many can understand. It is given to us so that we can get a better grasp of the value of Christianity as it is brought to us through the Catholic tradition.
