Building Quality in a Catholic WebNetwork
The Purpose of a Catholic WebNetwork
The purpose of building a Catholic WebNetwork is to ensure that the
gospel is proclaimed in the Internet through as many channels of
publishing and distribution. Since a webnetwork spans many domains,
then it will be made more visible through the search engines. Also,
those who are linked in the WebNetwork will get the traffic and
visibility they need for their web site. A Catholic WebNetwork is
never meant for the purpose of dominating all the domains withhin the
webnetwork: Catholic, Christian or non-Christian. Its spirit follows
the spirituality taught by our Holy Father John Paul II who stresses
very much Christian unity, ecumenism and interreligious dialogue and
the opening of doors for Christ in the boundaries of economic systems
and the vast fields of culture and development [John Paul II's call
to action: "Be not afraid. Open wide the doors for Christ. To His
saving power open the boundaries of states, economic and political
systems, the vast fields of culture, civilization and devlopment"
- Inauguration, October 22, 1978].
This Catholic WebNetwork has not only Catholic web sites but also
other Christian web sites and commercial web sites. The mission to
make the gospel known in the Internet is the mission of this Catholic
WebNetwork. It is in hope that this WebNetwork may contribute its
share of bringing the Catholic tradition to the Internet and support
the Church's task of sanctifying the secular spheres of the world,
especially the social communications world of the Net.
Building Quality in a Catholic WebNetwork
Building quality in a Catholic WebNetwork is focused on informational,
educative content, and resource materials that will provide the visitors
of the WebNetwork with information that will also help them derive some depth
of insight that he may not find in other web sites or webnetworks. The
quality of content and material is written in a style that is simple and
suited for the Internet visitors. Much effort is made in not using too
many theological and spirituality terminology, or one that is too academic
in approach. Quality content that will be built in a Catholic Webnetwork
is one that can lead the visitor and reader to deeper reflection, thought,
and obtain a sense of insight and vision from the Church's store of
spiritual wisdom.
Aside from content, a Catholic WebNetwork aims for a simple PageRank and
a good quality traffic rank. These quality status of a web site are also
necessary not because of the importance attached to it, but mainly because
it has the practical effect of visibility in the search engines. More
visibility means the gospel will be made more visible and can lead others
in the Internet media to take notice of the Catholic faith as a faith that
is still relevant for us today. Many may want to take interest in it since
the gospel is inculturated in the language and the cultural parameters of
the Net. This interest may further lead them to see the Catholic faith
again as a faith relevant to our times and still has the power to give
hope to the world. And not only this, the WebNetwork can give a new way
of seeing the Internet. It is said that when the early Christians after
Pentecost gathered, people noticed how different they were: they were filled
with so much charity and generosity in their service to one another. Such
is the spirit that this Catholic WebNetwork seeks to make known through its
webpages and domains. People will discover and experience that the Internet
is not only news, information and business, but also one where the Catholic
faith can be spread, promoted and propagated through the same channels used
for distributing news, information and business.
The Mission of the Catholic WebNetwork
The mission of the Catholic WebNetwork is to recruit as many entities as
it can to join its WebNetwork. As each entity is integrated into the
Catholic WebNetwork, they can have the benefit of greater traffic, visibility,
and advertisement. It is however, the spirit of the gospel which will lead
them to be open and be a link in this Catholic WebNetwork. There is a
spirit of sharing, generous service and charity in the WebNetwork. This is
most evident in the lists of the WebNetwork. However, since Catholic values
are important in the WebNetwork, this also applies to those who wish to be
part of the WebNetwork. Advertisements and photos and graphics need to be
simple and family-oriented in its message. The mission is not meant to be
big but a small one, encompassing only a few domains. This Catholic
WebNetwork seeks to aim for quality in its information and content value.
Whatever is excellent, whatever gives the best of itself in the web sites
are what the Catholic WebNetwork wishes to help and to develop. Working
for quality and excellence, it never forgets to follow simple approaches
towards its operations, a faithful attitude in its observance of Catholic
principles and teaching, and a generous sense of service - one that "gives
and does not count the cost."
[a word of advice to those interested to create a simple Catholic
WebNetwork: may we suggest that you link to our Catholic WebNetwork and
build your own Catholic WebNetwork from your rootedness in our system.
In this way, the spirit by which the original Catholic WebNetwork was built
is retained and will develop all the more by your share and contribution]
A simple Catholic WebNetwork can be built by one list, one webring,
one blog or web log, and one web site.
