The current post for today shall feature again Mary, more
particularly in relation to her apparitions in different
parts of the world. Please check the links given below.
Listed here is the regular post on Lectionary Readings plus
a feature article on Marian apparitions. There is also

Six Popular Marian Apparitions
Mary has a very unique, important and special role in the salvation
of humanity and the world. Since the time of her call to be the
Mother of God, she continues to guide the Church and calls her to
pray, repent and do penance for reproaches against the Lord. In
many parts of the world, there are noted and recorded apparitions
wherein visionaries, who are often children or youth, see Mary and
listen to her messages which are intended for all the faithful.
This article will limit itself to six of the popular Marian
apparitions that have obtained worldwide appeal: La Salette,
Lourdes, Mt. Carmel, the Miraculous Medal, Fatima, and Guadalupe.
Saints Behaving Badly: Book Review
Some saints were already filled much with God’s spirit early in
life. Saints like Dominic Savio, Catherine of Siena and Bernadette
Soubirous. Others however started very ordinarily while some
started with a sinful direction. This book by author Craughwell is
not only inspiring but interesting. He selects 28 sinners turned
saints: with the likes of St. Mary of Egypt, who started as a
seductress roaming the streets for new sexual conquests; St. Olga,
who organized a bloodbath for her husband’s assassins; St. Camillus
de Lellis, who was a cardsharp and a con man; and many more who
started badly but because of God’s grace and mercy, ended not only
rightly but very holy. This page gives a preview of the saints
who started as sinners - with a “sin title” next to each one to
signify what they did badly at first, before they embarked on a
journey to follow the virtues and holiness of Christ Jesus.
The Lectionary Readings
Pentecost Sunday is just more than a week away. And this Sunday
in many parts of the world, the feast of the Lord’s Ascension will
be celebrated. The Lectionary Readings for this year’s Ascension
Sunday is taken from year C. It is the same as years A and B and
features the passage from the gospel of Matthew 28: 19. 20. This
passage contains the great commission of Christ: “go, therefore,
and make disciples of all the nations…baptize them in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. It is
in the first reading where we find the account of the Lord’s
Ascension: Acts 1:1-11. In this account, we also have a record
of the Lord’s commissioning to his followers before “he was
lifted up before their eyes in a cloud which took him from their
sight”. Before His ascension, Jesus said in this passage: “you
are to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria,
yes, even to the ends of the earth.” Both the Acts of the Apostles
and the gospel of Matthew give account of Christ’s commission to
bring the gospel to “all the nations” and “to the ends of the
earth”.

Benedict XVI on “Jesus of Nazareth”
When the book written by Benedict XVI on “Jesus of Nazareth”
came off the presses in Italy, it became very popular. It is
now available in English translation. This book sets the person
and life of Jesus as He is presented in biblical tradition and
in Catholic teaching. To know more information on this book,
you can browse on this page. There are also other books and
films on Jesus featured on this page. Most interesting to
know more about is the film on Jesus as a miracle worker.
